Seafields

Healing the climate, restoring our oceans

Seafields develops marine infrastructure to catch, store, and harvest Sargassum seaweed for industrial production and long-term carbon sequestration. Our solution addresses three problems: the climate crisis; the transition from fossil-fuel based products; and the urgent need in the Caribbean for efficient and sustainable systems for controlling and disposing of invasive Sargassum seaweed.

The Sargassum that we harvest is processed to extract components that our partners turn into biostimulant (fertiliser), bionaphtha (for biofuels) and bioplastics. The remaining carbon-rich biomass is then compressed into bales and deposited on the ocean floor between 1000m and 4000m deep, storing carbon for thousands of years.

Our innovative infrastructure includes unique floating barrier systems to catch and contain the Sargassum, along with upwelling pipes that bring deep-sea nutrients to the surface of the ocean to naturally fertilise our Sargassum fields.
