In simple terms, Colorifix takes all of the harsh chemistry required in conventional dyeing and replaces it with biology. The process entirely cuts out the use of toxic chemicals and leads to a significant reduction in water and energy consumption.
Inspired by the way colours are produced in nature and engineered through synthetic biology, Colorifix is harnessing nature’s colours at an industrial scale, replacing synthetic dyes and sidestepping the intensive labour and agricultural requirements of scaling traditional natural dyes that have previously prohibited their uptake by the mainstream industry. The Colorifix process saves water, energy, and carbon emissions at every step (shown by third-party LCAs). So while our technology is advanced, the goal is simple, to create colour the natural way - as nature does it.
