A number of companies are currently developing fully-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxis, seating 4-5 passengers. Interestingly, though, several studies and reports have identified that over 50% of these air taxi journeys would be from downtown 'vertiports' to the airport. With so many people wanting to make the same journey it simply makes more sense to put them in a 'sky bus' rather than an air taxi.
Many people think that a larger aircraft will need more advanced technology and much better batteries than a smaller one, but that's simply not true - the same size of battery per person will carry them the same distance.
Sora Aviation is developing the S-1 aircraft, that has six rotors with very low tip speeds and thus very quiet, that can takeoff vertically carrying 30 passengers, quickly fly them 40 km to their destination, and land vertically.
